Emma Stone's Head-Turning Face Transformation Through The Years
When actor Emma Stone had her breakthrough in the late 2000s, thanks to projects like "Superbad" and "Zombieland," she was just entering her 20s. Since then, Stone has shown over and over again that her talent is worthy of being an A-lister in Hollywood, and more than 20 years later, she's just as busy and famous as ever. One thing that hasn't changed too much is the way she looks, as Stone could easily pass for a 20-something-year-old, even though she is in her late 30s.
The dramatic hair transformation of Emma Stone changed her face somewhat over the years, but it was around the mid-2020s that many began suspecting that the star had had some work done on her face, as she began looking even more youthful and refreshed. But Stone's face transformation actually began in the mid-2000s, when the actor was still establishing her place in the industry as a teen who was ready to take on the big screen!
2005-2009: Emma Stone has fun with her makeup before finding her signature look
When Emma Stone hit the scene in the mid-2000s, the actor rocked a blunt haircut with straight-across bangs, which were all the rage in the mid to late aughts. At the time, Stone's hair was brown, a stark contrast to the copper color she is best known for. Stone's makeup was also fun and on the heavier side, with the actor enhancing her green eyes with smoky eyeshadow looks.
By the late 2000s, Stone had embraced a look she still remains best known for — copper hair. In fact, Stone is one of the red-haired celebs who will make you want to try the flaming-hot look, if you're brave enough, that is. With the shift to copper hair, Stone's face completely changed. For one, the star's complexion looked much paler, with pink undertones, whereas the previous brown hair color had given her a more bronzed look. Stone added side-swept bangs to the look, another fringe staple of the era. The cut allowed more of her face to be seen while still framing her eyes and cheekbones. Makeup-wise, Stone moved away from the heavier looks, opting now for a combination of rosy cheeks and subtle brown eye makeup.
2010-2015: Emma Stone switched between hair colors, completely transforming her face
The early 2010s brought a remarkable milestone for Emma Stone, who was now starring in the "The Amazing Spider-Man" film series. For the role, Stone dyed her hair blond, a shade that many might be surprised to learn is her natural hair color. "My natural hair is blonde, so it's kind of nice," she shared with MTV (via TV Guide). "I looked in the mirror and said, 'Oh my god, it's me again! It's been so long!'"
She was still experimenting with different makeup looks at the time, as well. For Glamour in 2012, Stone revealed that her go-to night makeup consisted of enhancing her eyes rather than her lips. "Eyeliner and a little bit more shadow," she explained, adding, "I don't think I'd do something on my lips because I eat lipstick, so I don't think it would be a good call."
By the mid 2010s, Stone was once again a redhead, ditching the cool and icy eyeshadow she could pull off as a blond. Now, the star was all about warm tones and dewy skin, as her makeup often followed the less-is-more approach. In fact, the actor's skin always looked flawless, and when Cosmopolitan asked her in 2013 what her skincare secret was, Stone replied, "I'm really allergic to a lot of stuff, so I can only use products with a single ingredient in it. I use a Burt's Bees cleanser and sometimes I exfoliate with baking soda or brown sugar. I love coconut oil, Josie Maran Argan Oil, and olive oil —I have a big bottle of it on my sink and I put it all over my face." Now, while these tips and tricks may have worked for Stone, we generally advise being careful with creating skincare treatments yourself, as many at-home beauty hacks should definitely be skipped.
2016-2020: Emma Stone sticks to her signature eye-enhancing makeup and red hair
The second half of the 2010s was marked by Emma Stone's signature look, as the actor rarely veered away from bold eye makeup and red hair. Compared to the 2000s, Stone was now embracing slightly thicker and bushier eyebrows, in line with the trends of the time.
In 2017, Stone's makeup artist Rachel Goodwin explained to Vogue that when it came to the actor's makeup, it was always about the flawless base, which she achieved with "a sheer foundation to give her skin a refined but translucent quality and a soft barely-there blush on her cheeks."
Speaking to Vogue in 2019, Stone herself admitted that while she loved taking care of herself, she could survive without many products. "I could probably live without beauty products, but I would be pretty sad to be without lip balm, perfume, and sunscreen because without it I'd turn into a dragon," she shared. "I have those in my bag at all times." Stone's porcelain complexion undeniably benefited from regular SPF application, and as the star turned 30 in the late 2010s, there was barely a wrinkle on her face to behold.
2021-2025: Emma Stone's facial features change ever so slightly
The first half of the 2020s saw a noticeable change in Emma Stone's appearance, leading many to believe she had undergone plastic surgery, including blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, and a facelift, as well as injectables such as lip fillers and Botox.
On Instagram, Dr. Jonny Betteridge of JB Aesthetics shared his professional opinion on the changes we've noticed in the actor's face, explaining, "Her face looked more sculpted and refreshed, with subtle yet noticeable changes that suggest something may have been done." Dr. Betteridge added that "her brows appear more elevated, particularly at the outer edges" and that "there's greater visibility of the upper eyelids, and the overall contour of her mid-face seems more youthful." While Stone has not confirmed or denied getting any work done, Dr. Betteridge believes she had undergone "an upper blepharoplasty paired with an endoscopic brow and mid-face lift," resulting in the face changes most noticeable in 2025.
Makeup and hair color-wise, Stone stuck to the look she is known for. Compared to the previous decades, the 2020s were all about a more natural eye, enhanced through lighter eyeshadow and long lashes. Stone also kept her hair red; however, she opted for a drastic change, rocking a messy pixie cut.
2026-Present: Emma Stone's face continues changing as she looks more snatched than ever
In 2026, photos of Emma Stone are proof that the star's appearance has changed, as her entire face looks more lifted and snatched. And while Stone has yet to address her transformation, celebrity facialist Iván Pol explained just what treatment she (and other celebs) are obsessed with. Also called the "face architect," Pol shared with BuzzFeed in 2026 just what he does to get the faces of celebrities looking flawless before big industry events.
"I use my proprietary blend of radio frequency. I use infrared, monopolar and bipolar radio frequencies at different depths in a sandwiched method so that you're creating heat, cold and muscle synthesis at different depths to create the sandwiching snatching effect," the facialist explained. "I'm going to carve out your jawline. I'm going to tighten and corset your lower face. I'm going to plump and smooth facial wrinkles, volumize the cheekbones, while slightly raising the outer corners of the eyes," he added.
As Emma Stone is strutting through her late 30s, the star's face will undeniably continue changing. Whether these changes are only achieved through facial treatments and makeup is something that only time will tell, because no one can really age naturally without any of the signs that come along with it.
