Brittany Mahomes' Risqué Outfit At 2023 ESPYs Wasn't The Touchdown She Thought It Was
Brittany Mahomes' style has gone through a massive transformation over the years. From the fun yet feminine athletic wear that characterized Mahomes' look during her professional soccer career, to the more bold and experimental vibes she came to embrace during her marriage to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the iconic NFL WAG has never been afraid to take a fashion risk or two. While some of her looks — like Brittany Mahomes' spicy 2025 Super Bowl outfit featuring white Re/Done denim-on-denim — were wins, Mahomes is not exempt from making a fashion misstep or two. For the event, Brittany Mahomes showed off her stunning figure with a black, floor-length Versace gown. She paired the dress with a thick gold chain necklace and a messy updo. Even though it's clear that Mahomes was trying to channel a bold, provocative vibe with the gown's risqué cutouts, nothing about this look works. The top of her dress is made from two large pockets that seem to be buckled across her chest — each pocket features a gold button with placement that is a bit too on-the-nose for our taste.
Aside from Mahomes' Versace fumble, the rest of her styling doesn't elevate the look at all. The gold chain necklace is too big and clunky for the already-busy top half of Mahomes' ensemble, yet too small to make any real statement. And, while her blond curls look amazing, the updo they've been swept into is a bit too casual for the event. If she were just running errands, her messy bun would look fabulous. But for an event as important for professional athletes as the ESPYs? It falls a little flat.
Brittany Mahomes is no stranger to the occasional fashion flop
As one of the most well-known WAGs in the NFL and a former pro athlete in her own right, Brittany Mahomes has worn her fair share of outrageous outfits. Besides her 2023 ESPYs misstep, Mahomes has often experimented with different materials and aesthetics — to mixed effect. An example of this is one of Mahomes' field-side looks from October 2021. Mahomes made the daring choice to pair tan baggy velvet pants with a pair of cream-colored cowboy boots. While the cream and tan color scheme is timeless and elegant, the pants were ill-fitting and looked a little awkward tucked into the short boots.
Despite what we may have to say about some of her more questionable fashion choices, Mahomes has made it clear that she wears and does what she wants with confidence. Ahead of the 2023 ESPYs, Patrick Mahomes praised his wife's ability to block out criticism, citing her professional soccer career as something that helped her prep for the NFL spotlight. "Enjoy your life every single day and not worry about what everyone thinks," Patrick told E! News of Brittany Mahomes' philosophy. During an Instagram Q&A that same year, Mahomes herself told fans what she thought about the hate she'd gotten online. "I could give two s***s about people's opinion of me that don't even know me," she said (per CafeMom).
