Of all the plastic surgery procedures in Hollywood, there is perhaps none more notorious than Jennifer Grey's nose job. Shortly after rising to fame as the leading lady in the hit film "Dirty Dancing," Grey underwent a rhinoplasty procedure in the hopes of helping her score more roles on the big screen. But after requiring a second procedure to correct some minor issues, Grey was left with a shockingly smaller new nose, dramatically altering her entire face in a way she wasn't expecting.

Her nose was reduced in size so significantly that Jennifer Grey became nearly unrecognizable to many of the same moviegoers who had just witnessed her arrival as a star. Even after earning a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Frances "Baby" Houseman in "Dirty Dancing," some of Grey's own peers didn't recognize her face after the plastic surgery. While attending a movie premiere in what was her first public outing since the procedure, Grey went unrecognized by fellow actor Michael Douglas. She specifically named Douglas in her 2022 memoir, "Out of the Corner," where she reflected on feeling "completely invisible" after her signature look was forever altered (via People).

Jennifer Grey's nose job did her career dirty

Jennifer Grey is one of the celebs who have opened up about their plastic surgery experience, including the negative impact it had on her career — which is the very thing she was trying to avoid. Following her "Dirty Dancing" success, roles were surprisingly hard to come by. "I made $50,000 when I made the movie. And now, I'm famous and I can't support myself," Grey recalled to "GMA" in a 2022 interview about her decision to go under the knife.

She was advised to get a nose job by her mother, Jo Wilder, a former actor herself, who insisted it would bolster her acting career — but Grey would live to join the ranks of celebs who regretted their face tune-ups. Grey's new nose ended up having a devastating effect on her career, making it harder to recognize that she was the same actor who had starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the hugely successful 1987 flick. "In the world's eyes, I was no longer me," she said in an interview with People in 2022. "I was so upset with my mother for always telling me I should do my nose."

Although Grey has never been able to achieve the same level of success she had in the '80s with "Dirty Dancing" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," she continued to act throughout the following decades, working on films like "Bittersweet Symphony" (2019) and "A Real Pain" (2024), while making TV appearances in "Grey's Anatomy," "Friends," and more.
