Alexa Demie's Stark Face Change At Euphoria Premiere Has Rumors Running Wild (Can We Give It A Rest?)

Even though Alexa Demie looked stunning at the red carpet premiere of "Euphoria" Season 3, many online had a lot to say about her appearance — namely, her face. The actor, who portrays fan-favorite Maddy Perez on the HBO drama, was one of the best-dressed stars of the night. Demie stepped out in a silver and black vintage Bob Mackie gown with a dramatic train. She kept her makeup and hair styling minimal, with her bright, fresh-faced appearance complemented by simple wavy hair. While we thought Demie looked phenomenal, tabloids and internet trolls (unsurprisingly) were quick to pick at differences between her appearance now and her look at the Season 1 "Euphoria" premiere seven years ago.

In photos from the show's first premiere in 2019, Demie does appear to have a somewhat fuller face. However, her prominent cheekbones and striking, cat-like eyes remain largely the same. Some users on X suspect that Demie may have had buccal fat removal, a cosmetic procedure that removes fat from the lower half of the face to emphasize cheekbones and create a more defined jawline. Others wonder whether Demie's weight loss is due to GLP-1 use.  

While Demie seems to have lost weight since her critically-acclaimed performance in the first season of "Euphoria," we know that weight loss can happen for myriad reasons — none of which are ours to demand answers about. In an X discussion about Demie, one user referenced the speculation surrounding actor Chadwick Boseman's drastic weight loss shortly before his passing in 2020. "I thought after Chadwick Boseman, unnecessary commentary about people's looks [would] die down. Guess I was wrong. Humans will continue to nitpick every physical detail and be mean to one another," they wrote. 

While Alexa Demie's character Maddy Perez helped kickstart the appropriately-named "'Euphoria' makeup" trend that emerged in 2019, the actor has lately been embracing a more natural-leaning glam. At the Season 3 "Euphoria" premiere, Demie opted for a skin-first, no-makeup makeup look — showing off how much she has changed since the show's first season premiere (for which she wore dramatic black eyeliner like her character). These days, it appears she's learned how to nail the "barely-there" eyeliner trend.

Back in 2022, we could see Demie begin to shirk the dramatic, rhinestone-studded glam of her "Euphoria" counterpart. For a Tiffany and Co. event that year, Demie ditched her then-signature winged eyeliner for baby pink eyeshadow and a white-lined waterline. We've seen the full evolution of Demie's makeup — from bold and dramatic during her early "Euphoria" days, to soft and demure, to the fresh and understated look she's now embracing. Demie clearly knows how to look fresh-faced when you don't have makeup.

During her makeup tutorial with Vogue in 2019, Demie revealed what she does to keep her skin looking flawless even underneath her makeup. The actor began with an organic hydrating mist to bring moisture back into her face after cleansing, following it up with a serum to keep her skin glowy. Demie mentioned that her mother, a makeup artist herself, used to stress the importance of keeping skin clean and hydrated (she probably understands why you should be double-cleansing when you wash your face). "My great-grandmother really got [my mom] into creams and serums at a really young age, so she's always been really good about sharing all of those products with me ... skin is, like, number one for me," Demie said.
