The Most Outdated Celeb Outfits Of 2026 (So Far)

As 2026 rapidly approaches the halfway mark, it's become increasingly clear that this is a strange year for fashion. We've already seen some incredibly high highs, like the great summer outfit inspiration gleaned from Billboard's 2026 Women in Music event; but, we've also had some truly terrible lows, like the worst-dressed celebs at the 2026 Kentucky Derby. However, one recurring trend that has characterized the first half of the year is vintage revival. While Y2K fashion has been back in style for the past few years, we've also seen a small 1970s comeback (with festival season in full swing, this isn't too much of a surprise), as well as interesting usage of 1920s silhouettes like drop waist skirts and decorative motifs like fringe, feathers, and sheer paneling.

The goal with vintage fashion revivals is to take something old — a shape, fabric, or color palette —and mix it with modern sensibilities to create something entirely new and fresh (just take the very dynamic exaggeration of 1940s silhouettes in the 1980s, for example). But, as effective as a referential look can be, there are some who take "vintage" to a whole new level. Through the first few months of 2026, we've gotten to see celebrities rock quite a few old-school looks that completely missed the opportunity to push fashion boundaries. From frumpy Victorian ballgowns to multiple lazy uses of '70s style conventions, these are some of the most outdated looks of the year thus far.

Madelyn Cline was giving off major 2015 vibes at Coachella

"Outer Banks" star Madelyn Cline evoked old-school Coachella comparisons while attending a post-Coachella dinner party hosted by Rachel Zoe. Cline has been dubbed one of the worst-dressed celebs at Coachella 2026 weekend one for her uber-casual outfit; the actor wore a distressed Jim Morrison T-shirt, cut-off denim shorts, and black ankle boots. While not being completely disastrous, Cline's band tee and jean shorts combo fits perfectly into the 2015 grunge revival trend. All she needed was a plaid flannel and some ripped black tights to complete her throwback look.

Sydney Sweeney's tacky Stagecoach ensemble used fringe in a very outdated way

Since the early days of "Euphoria," we've seen Sydney Sweeney go through a style evolution. As she's risen to cultural prominence, Sweeney has worn some classic Hollywood glam, ultra-feminine silhouettes, and even tried out a few edgier looks. Recently, the actor has been more open to experimenting with her fashion — to mixed success. The tacky fringe coat she wore to Stagecoach 2026 looked like it came from the set of an old Western film (which, coincidentally, fits in quite well with the vibe of the third season of "Euphoria").

Hilaria Baldwin looked old-fashioned in a floor-length floral skirt

Hilaria Baldwin was one of the worst-dressed celebs of Valentine's Day 2026, and for good reason. Baldwin attended the Alice + Olivia presentation in New York City wearing a floral-print maxi skirt and long-sleeved black top. While Baldwin aged herself in the tacky skirt, there was a notable disconnect between her long, conservative skirt, and ultra low-cut top. The controversial mother of seven usually dresses quite modern, so this old-fashioned skirt must look particularly out of place in her wardrobe.

Margot Robbie's drop-waist dress would have been more stylish in the late 2000s

Margot Robbie has undergone a stunning style transformation throughout her career. In recent memory, the Australian actor has made headlines for the fabulous gowns she wore during the "Wuthering Heights" press tour. However, her casual look for the "Ready or Not 2" premiere in March 2026 became another Margot Robbie outfit that totally flopped. Robbie's strapless, drop-waist bubble skirt dress was already very late 2000s-coded, but especially so when paired with a thick black belt, chunky moto boots, and brown leather coat.

Lauren Sánchez Bezos wore an 1980s power suit to film an episode of the Today show

Over the years, Lauren Sánchez Bezos has worn many outdated outfits that should have stayed in her closet. As a guest on a March 2026 episode of "Today," Sánchez Bezos wore an uncharacteristically modest outfit that felt very '80s. Even though it is one of the former journalist's less controversial looks, the white skirt set featured prominent shoulder pads and a garish flower appliqué on her lapel that screamed "old-school" — and not in a good way.

Lainey Wilson was so '70s while performing at Stagecoach

Though her dedication to maintaining a bohemian aesthetic is admirable, many of Lainey Wilson's outfits leave us scratching our heads. Wilson headlined the Saturday lineup at Stagecoach 2026, looking straight out of the 1970s in a pair of purple and red patchwork pants, turquoise beaded necklaces, and a long paisley-patterned vest. Even though '70s-inspired looks make a comeback every year around festival season, the wearers usually try to put a modern spin on their outfits. Wilson, this time, did not.

Aimee Lou Wood aged herself in a frumpy-looking Vivienne Westwood gown at the Golden Globes

Aimee Lou Wood landed herself on the list of worst-dressed celebs at the 2026 Golden Globes with an old-fashioned ballgown from Vivienne Westwood. The actor was trying to channel fairytale energy with the hoop skirt and asymmetrical off-the-shoulder sleeves, but, instead, the lack of impactful styling combined with the over-dramatic dress drastically aged her. Wood should have either fully committed to the look by going all-in on the Victorian vibes, or simply worn a more modern gown. As one Reddit user aptly put it, "This dress is wearing her."
