Amanda Seyfried Gets Real About Adult Acne In Raw 2026 Met Gala Red Carpet Moment
Caused by everything from lifestyle choices to genetics, acne can be a struggle for people of any age, since breakouts are often a recurring issue into the adult years. As it turns out, even celebrities have to deal with adult acne, which can feel like a bit of an atrocity when you're in the midst of it. Oscar-nominated actor Amanda Seyfried made a shocking confession at the 2026 Met Gala about her experience with this common affliction.
During a Vogue interview with Ashley Graham and Cara Delevingne, Seyfried spoke honestly about the difficulties she has with her skin (in addition to confessing that she was wearing Spanx beneath her Prada gown). "I'm on medicine right now for acne on my chin," she told the interviewers. While Graham insisted that Seyfried's skin looked luminous, Delevingne had a skin admission of her own: "Babe, I'm on that too." We shouldn't be surprised, since adult acne is currently affecting up to 15% of women, per the American Academy of Dermatology. There are many great skincare products for treating adult acne, but as Seyfried and Delevingne have confirmed, medical solutions can also provide relief.
In the interview, the "Housemaid" star explained that she'd spent the morning of the 2026 Met Gala on her rural property with her pet donkeys, but in previous years, her Met prep was more skin-focused. "I used to get facials, which are also really great," she noted. It's possible she's taking a break from facials this year because the practice can worsen acne in some situations. But whatever skin prep she did, Graham was right in noticing that Seyfried's skin was "glowing."
Amanda Seyfried is an open book when it comes to her skincare
Discussing being on acne medication on the 2026 Met Gala red carpet just proves how willing Amanda Seyfried is to open up about her real beauty struggles and experiences. It's certainly not the first time she's done so: Back in March 2025, she spoke about dealing with eczema as part of Vogue's "Beauty Secrets" series. In the video, the "Mean Girls" star appeared completely makeup-free with red blemishes on her skin. "You might be thinking, 'What's that on her face?'" she shared with viewers. "That's my eczema, and I too suffer from perioral dermatitis."
Seyfried told fans that she started developing rashes on her face when she was 19, and that's when she first learned about medicated products from her dermatologist. Along with cutting out dairy, she treats her eczema with medicated cream under her skincare. Before applying her makeup (yes, eczema-prone skin can still wear makeup!), she wears SPF, which is vital for those with eczema and acne; the latter is particularly important since acne medications can make skin ultra-sensitive to the sun. While she is still dealing with eczema and adult acne, she also admitted that her skin has improved with age and having kids.
"It's funny how eczema makes you feel," Seyfried noted in the video, and her openness prompted praise from fans who feel seen after having experienced their own skin issues. "If the rest of Hollywood was as transparent and genuine as Amanda, people would probably have a little less trouble with comparing themselves to celebrities," a fan commented beneath the video. Undoubtedly, her acne admission at the 2026 Met Gala will have the same effect, letting people know that even celebrities aren't immune to the skin issues many of us deal with.
