Sheinelle Jones is one of the most beloved "Today" hosts, and for good reason; in addition to being an accomplished journalist, Jones is a published author and mother of three. Jones lost her husband Uche Ojeh to cancer in 2025, and since then, has opened up about her experiences with grief while having to suddenly navigate parenthood on her own.

In the May 2026 issue of Woman's World, Jones provided some insight about motherhood gleaned from the many mothers she interviewed for her book "Through Mom's Eyes," as well as from her own background. "There's no template. We do the best we can, but we can't curate a life," Jones said, going on to explain that, after interviewing mothers of successful people for her book, she realized there is no single right or wrong way to be a mother. "As soon as I thought I had the answer, it changed," she said. Beneath an Instagram clip of Jones discussing the book's message, fans chimed in with their praise and understanding. "Love this so much," one wrote.

The "Today" host went on to share a phrase from her grandmother: "I'm doing the best I can with the light I have to see by." In other words, we can only work with what we know in the moment, so the only time a person can ever really be perfect is in hindsight. According to Jones, something that was shared between all of the women she spoke to for "Through Mom's Eyes" was "discipline wrapped in love, presence, and also faith." It can be difficult to deal with overwhelming parental guilt, but women like Jones are working to alleviate the societal pressure to be a so-called "perfect" mother.

Sheinelle Jones takes parenting inspiration from her Today co-anchors

Sheinelle Jones is known for her stunning outfits and killer legs, but even more so for her steadfast dedication to her work and her three children Kayin, Clara, and Uche. Jones has spoken about how these two facets of her life intertwine more often than one would think; the "Today" host is quite close with her co-anchors, and has looked to them for parenting advice after her husband's passing.

"My co-workers have really been there for me in so many different ways," Jones told Good Housekeeping. "Dylan [Dreyer] is a tough cookie with three boys, and when I'm feeling wishy washy, she gives me those eyes, and I can get it together. Meanwhile, Hoda [Kotb] is the heart. She's the one I can call about anything, and she's the one who told me to put Clara in musical theater. They've been amazing, truly." Jones' book "Through Mom's Eyes" compiles stories and advice from the mothers of celebrities, so it's quite fitting that Jones' own parenting style is inspired by the different mothers in her circle.

In May 2026, Jones went viral after receiving some affirmation from Rihanna at the Met Gala. While reporting on the red carpet, the singer stopped to share some encouraging words with Jones. "You deserve to be poured into. And you're beautiful, you're a Black journalist. And I respect you. I love you for this," Rihanna told her, per Instagram. Jones publicly receiving encouragement from a fellow working mother showed the real-world impact of her philosophy on the intersection of motherhood, personhood, and community.
