Hollywood Ladies Over 50 Who Cut Down On Sugar & Look Absolutely Radiant
Ordering dessert after meals or having a fruity cocktail on a hot day are some of the great pleasures in life, but it's a well-known fact that too much sugar isn't great for you, especially if you've hit your 50s and above. According to The Ohio State University, sweets can make you age faster, as they can cause inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, and even memory loss. Of course, it's safe to consume natural sugars found in fruits and some vegetables, but the processed stuff is the kind to stay away from. Some celebs are onto this fact, and have either slashed their intake or completely cut sugar out.
Hollywood isn't easy on older women, as they're pressured to remain youthful, but that's not the only reason for avoiding processed sugar. Many do it for health reasons, such as a diabetes diagnosis or simply wanting more energy. While it hasn't always been easy, these celebs ditched the processed stuff, and look so much better for it.
Debra Messing stopped eating sugar for her son
It seems Debra Messing hasn't aged since her "Will & Grace" days, and it's all due to healthy living. She told Page Six in 2018 that it wasn't fair of her to eat sugar while telling her son not to, so she kicked the habit. "Pretty rapidly, my body got used to it and I really, really started feeling much more energized. I think I actually look better as a result," declared Messing, who was 50 years old at the time. Her go-to binge instead? Scrolling through puppies on social media. We can't think of anything sweeter.
Halle Berry cut out sugar to stay healthy
As someone nearing their 60s, Halle Berry's stunning style transformation only highlights how she looks exactly the same as she did decades ago. Along with amazing genetics, it's likely because she kept a strict diet of no sugar after finding out she had diabetes around her 20s. "My health was on the line, so I went cold turkey on my sugar-filled ways. Out the window went the candy, the desserts, and even super-sweet fruit," she told Women's Health. Berry's diet is obviously working, because she's looking healthier and more radiant than ever.
Sherri Shepherd reversed her diabetes by omitting sugar completely
We're not sure how Sherri Shepherd doesn't have one wrinkle on her face, but perhaps it's because she's been on a no-sugar diet since 2018. As a diabetic, it did wonders for lowering her blood pressure and A1C levels, which she celebrated with an Instagram post in 2019. "The doctor excitedly said, 'OHMYGOD, what did you do? You're not even prediabetic!'" the talk show host shared. Shepherd also showed off a stunning weight-loss transformation and gave credit to her sugar-free life. "This is not a fad — it's my life that is at stake," she wrote.
Jennifer Aniston consumes sugar within reason
Jennifer Aniston's face transformation since "Friends" is head-turning, but other than a nose job for a deviated septum and possibly some injections, she still looks like Hollywood's favorite girl-next-door. It's obvious that she's super into fitness and maintaining a healthy diet, but she allows herself a bit of sweets at times. "It's pretty clear: eat as much organic fruits and veggies as you can, keep sugar [intake] low, drink tons and tons of water, and get good sleep," she shared with Yahoo! Life about her eating habits. As they say, moderation is the key to life.
Kyle Richards gave her diet a reset
Kyle Richards revealed in Season 13 of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" that she had stopped drinking alcohol, and that wasn't the only thing she cut out. The reality star told Us Weekly that during a trip to Europe in 2022, she indulged in a bit too much in carbs and cocktails, and admitted, "By the end of the trip, I didn't recognize myself." Richards added, "So after we left, I said, 'That's it. I'm not going to have bad carbs — no sugar, no pasta, no bread, no alcohol. And I'm going to work out every single day.'"
Gwyneth Paltrow began her health kick after her father got sick
Gwyneth Paltrow's face has transformed over the years, and it's only getting better with age. She revealed to Yahoo! News that her awareness surrounding health and clean living began in her late 20s after her father got diagnosed with cancer, with food being her first major change. "I got into, you know, detoxing and reading about the importance of whole foods and not eating processed foods, and how much sugar and cancer have a link," the Goop founder said.
Cameron Diaz shared her thoughtful views on sugar
Cameron Diaz is fit and fabulous at any age, and she's also pretty smart when it comes to health. While on OWN, she spoke about equating sugary treats to childhood rewards, and that folks should change their mindset as adults. "When it comes down to it at this point in your life, is that sugar is not good for you. And you have to make these choices and you have to be aware," the "Charlie's Angels" star explained. Diaz added that other healthier options, like honey and eating actual fruit instead of just drinking juices, is a more mindful approach to consuming sugar.
