Princess Beatrice's Wedding Guest Dresses, Ranked From Least To Most Chic

Princess Beatrice isn't one of the royal family's fashion icons. When compared to Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the wives of her cousins Princes Harry and William, Beatrice is often overshadowed in the style department. In fact, four of our worst Trooping the Colour looks of all time belong to the princess. However, despite our unwillingness to forget Princess Beatrice's most outdated outfits, we can admit that the royal has worn some chic ensembles. Many of Beatrice's most fashion-forward looks come from her attendance at royal or royal-adjacent weddings. We've discussed some of Kate Middleton's best wedding guest looks, and, now, we're ranking Beatrice's according to how chic they are.

It's true that looking chic is relative. After all, everyone has their own idea of what looks good on them and what they feel best wearing. But, for this ranking, we're taking "chic" to mean an outfit that is sophisticated, well-made, flattering in color and fit, and, of course, incredibly stylish. Beatrice's chicest looks often see the princess donning neutral shades that pair well with her skin tone, engaging in intentional color matching, and choosing pieces that are tailored to her body perfectly. Despite Beatrice's reputation as one of the worst-dressed royals, this ranking will show that she is just as capable of looking elegant and modern as Kate or Meghan from time to time.

6. Princess Beatrice's frumpy outfit was ill-fitting and poorly styled

Princess Beatrice's least chic wedding guest look is undoubtably the disjointed purple ensemble she put together for the June 2011 nuptials of Sam Waley-Cohen and Annabel Ballin. She wore a purple lace dress layered over an indigo slip with a thick cropped coat, and accessorized with a glittery pink clutch, and a gray fascinator — together, these certainly don't make for a cohesive look. Beatrice's outfit didn't create a nice silhouette, with the jacket giving her a top-heavy appearance. This look lacked polish and sophistication, which are must-haves for a chic outfit.

5. Princess Beatrice looked more girlish than chic in a rainbow butterfly dress

Princess Beatrice went for an outfit that was perhaps too quirky for Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly's wedding in May 2008. The royal wore a rainbow butterfly-patterned dress from Alexander McQueen's Spring 2008 Ready to Wear collection, which she paired with the accompanying butterfly hat for the event. While a fun ensemble on its own (and sans the too-tight white jacket), Beatrice's look was both inappropriate for the event and the exact opposite of "chic." The look wasn't sophisticated, well-tailored, nor flattering. Not our favorite.

4. Princess Beatrice opted for a more classic look for a cousin's 2011 wedding

Princess Beatrice looked very classic while attending her cousin Zara Phillips' wedding in July 2011. Beatrice opted for a garden-party ready teal skirt embellished with beads and floral appliqués, a collar-less jacket and, of course, a sculptural hat. She added some early 2010s flair to the look with a chevron patterned clutch and pair of simple platform pumps. The royal's monochrome look, while appropriate for the event and decently tailored, was more playful and girlish than chic. Not a bad look for a royal wedding, but it wasn't the most posh.

3. Princess Beatrice's day dress at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding was well made

One of Princess Beatrice's best looks was the beautifully crafted Roksanda Ilincic dress she wore to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding. Beatrice's intricately beaded day dress doesn't rank higher on this list due to its lackluster styling; perhaps scared of repeating her mistake from Kate Middleton's wedding — where she was criticized online for her show-stealing Philip Treacy fascinator — Beatrice kept her Stephen Jones headwear overly simple with a blue and black striped piece that looked more like a tacky headband than a proper hat.

2. Princess Beatrice embraced color blocking at a society wedding in 2013

One of Princess Beatrice's most underrated wedding guest looks comes from Jake Warren and Zoe Stewart's society wedding in December 2013. Beatrice wore a cobalt-blue Comptoir Des Cotonniers wool coat, which she paired with a mod mustard-yellow cap and simple tortoise-shell pumps. The royal carried a dark-brown Balenciaga clutch, which pulled from the brown in her shoes. Beatrice cleverly used the trusty three-color rule for her color blocking, resulting in a look that was more chic than many of her other outfits.

1. Princess Beatrice's most controversial look was actually chic beyond the fascinator

While the controversial, over-the-top fascinator she wore to Kate Middleton and Prince William's wedding earned a spot on the list of Princess Beatrice's most inappropriate outfits, Beatrice's flesh-toned Valentino coat and dress were nothing short of fabulous. Beatrice often wears clothes that don't flatter her, so this outfit stands out from the rest of her wardrobe for how impeccable the coat's tailoring is; she even re-wore the ultra-chic look (sans coat and fascinator) to a Belgian royal wedding in 2014.

How did we decide which of Princess Beatrice's wedding guest outfits were the most chic?

How chic an outfit may or may not be depends on your sense of style; everyone has their own personal definition of what makes a look fashionable. But, to us at Glam, the definition is pretty simple: To be chic, an outfit must be well-tailored, flattering and modern in silhouette, and possess a high level of taste, polish, and sophistication. To rank Princess Beatrice's wedding guest outfits by chicness, we evaluated each look according to these factors.
