Mandy Moore's Complete Transformation, In Photos
If we're counting the Hollywood celebs who've enjoyed careers that have spanned decades and crossed genres, Mandy Moore is one of the lucky few. She sings, she acts, and she's punctuated our coming-of-age years with work that has the power to both set us up for a good dance and a good cry. The beloved feel-good show "This Is Us" on which she starred wrapped in 2022 after six seasons, and her film "The Breadwinner," in which she stars opposite comedian Nate Bargatze, hit theaters in May 2026.
Befitting someone who's been a household name since 1999 when she was just 15, we've seen many different iterations of Moore's style — always on-trend and plenty cute. Her hair has been long and blond, short and brunette; her outfits have been airy and bright, dramatic and sexy. She's still going strong, and so it feels like the perfect time to check out how her style has evolved over the years.
2000: Mandy Moore was Y2K dream girl next door
Mandy Moore's single "Candy" debuted in 1999, kicking off her Y2K appearances. The pop-star-in-the-making swung by the Kids' Choice Awards in Hollywood in April 2000 rocking a simple black tank and eggplant-colored liquid leggings with fringe along the sides. She then celebrated the launch of her CD "I Wanna Be with You," and hosted a meet and greet with fans in New York City in May wearing a textured top and asymmetrical denim skirt. Yep, Moore used to have bright, golden blond hair.
2004: Mandy Moore was all about barely-there spaghetti straps
By 2004, the hair was warmed up to a chocolate brown, and Mandy Moore was opting for more grown-up looks — seeming to be a fan of slinky maxi dresses with dainty straps. Moore had also started to act. The white pinstriped look is from the Los Angeles premiere of the movie "Saved" in which she starred, and she donned a black satiny gown to the 2004 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City. We especially love the dark eyeliner against the icy shadow that's so wrong it's right — and so early aughts.
2007: Mandy Moore paired red locks with bright, citrusy colors
Count the flimsy nightgown-type dress, like the one Mandy Moore wore to the Kids' Choice Awards in March 2007, as one of the things people found attractive in the aughts. It's very of-the-moment, and the color is fun. Same goes for the jewel-toned green gown that Moore donned for the Hollywood premiere of her movie "License to Wed" in June. Around this time, she was also rocking a shaggy copper-colored haircut that was heavy on the layers and the disco-era glamour.
2010: Mandy Moore owned the bodycon era with dark and dreamy hair
Back then, you would've been hard-pressed to find a woman's wardrobe that didn't include its fair share of adaptable bodycon dresses — good for the office or hitting the club. Mandy Moore was definitely on this and the dark hair wave, adopting espresso-colored tresses. Moore dressed in a silver painted minidress at the 38th American Music Awards in November 2010. That same month, she popped out for the Hollywood premiere of "Frankie & Alice" wearing a simple gray jersey-type version, adorned with the all-important statement necklace.
2015: Mandy Moore was flirty in feminine silhouettes
Mandy Moore's look felt lighter by 2015. Her dark hair gave way to a more natural chestnut brown, and it was chopped into a lob. We know her for her longer hair, so no one would blame you if you think Mandy Moore is nearly unrecognizable with short hair. Her outfits also felt airier. Moore opted for a classically elegant A-line dress for a The A List Anniversary Party in Beverly Hills in September 2015. For a Lela Rose event in Los Angeles in November, she wore a powder pink blouse and skirt set.
2018: Mandy Moore dialed up the allure in earthy browns
Mandy Moore must've been thinking about how timeless leopard print is when she opted for the all-over two-piece 'fit she rocked for a "This Is Us" event in Los Angeles in May 2018. The orange-red lip was the perfect complement. Moore kept with the swirl of black and brown when she walked the carpet at the 70th Emmy Awards in September, also in LA, rocking a plunging gown that reminded us of a shimmery mineral rock. She'd also let her hair grow out a little bit, too, into a wavy mid-length look.
2022: Mandy Moore put her own twist on the power suit
Coming out of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Mandy Moore seemed to have had some fun with tailoring and suiting. At a "This Is Us" series finale event in Los Angeles in May 2022, she donned a navy blue suit featuring high-waisted slacks and a mesh top. She wore a snappier black suit and tie — complete with cigarette pants, a pocket square, and pointy toe pumps — when she swung by an NBC Universal event that same month.
2026: Mandy Moore is streamlined and sophisticated — and back to blond
In what feels like a full circle move, Mandy Moore was back to long blond hair in 2026, and her style feels refined and mature. Photogs caught her heading into the Disney Upfront after-party in May 2026 in New York City. In one of our favorite unique ways to style a simple trench coat, Moore threw a wheat-colored option over what looks like a silky red slip dress. While attending a screening of "The Breadwinner" in Nashville, also in May, she rocked another simple silhouette: a maxi dress covered in teal green sequins.
